| Constitution of the Young Authors Club |
| |
| Article 1. Name of Organization |
| Section A. It is resolved that the name of this organization shall be the Young Authors Club of Tahoma Senior High School. |
| |
| Article 2. Purpose |
| The purposes of this organization shall be: |
| A. To provide an environment in which young authors can share their works with the students and administration of Tahoma High School |
| B. To improve writing by receiving constructive criticism and suggestions from their peers and betters |
| C. To introduce new ideas into their works and experiment with new styles, themes, and genres |
| D. To provide an opportunity for young authors to participate in local community events such as author readings and library presentations, and share their works with not only Tahoma High School, but the community in general |

| Article 3. Membership |
| Section A. To become a member: |
| A. One would first have to go to the administrator(s) in charge of the club and obtain the date of the next meeting. |
| B. The person(s) must then attend the next meeting, where he/she will be informed of the rules of the club and the requirements he/she will need to adhere to in order to stay in the club. |
| C. If a person decides to join, they will then need to sign a contract stating that he/she will not plagiarize or steal the works of other writers. |
| Section B. Requirements of a member: |
| A. All members must respect other members’ ideas and suggestions without taking offence to what has been said. |
| B. All members must share their ideas and give their suggestions in a polite and respectful manner; everyone’s ideas need to be equally noted by the club. No member is right in their view and no member is wrong in their view. |
| C. All members must sign a contract stating that he/she shall not plagiarize or steal other members work(s). |
| D. Members must uphold the integrity of the content of their works within the club. No work should contain highly descriptive violence, descriptive sensual scenes or gratuitous content (sensual content may be present without in-depth detail), or excessive use of foul language. Other elements may be restricted if seen fit by the administrator(s). |
| E. All members must be present for at least one-half of the in-school meetings. If members are present for the required amount of meetings then the main purpose of the club, to share and receive feedback on work will have a desirable effect on the members. |
| F. All members must be present for one-third of the out-of-school events and all required events. |
| G. All members must notify either the administrator(s) or an officer if they is not going to be present for any required meetings or events two days before the date of the event. A member must have a legitimate reason for being absent: |
| 1. Excused school absence |
| 2. Work |
| 3. Family |
| Section C. To expel a member one must: |
| A. If any member at any time should plagiarize another member’s work(s) or another author’s work(s) he/she can be asked to leave the club. |
| B. If any member displays inappropriate content in their works that he/she shares within the club after being asked to cease, he/she can be asked to leave the club. |
| C. If at any time a member of the club feels that another member or members are not adhering the rules or the requirements (i.e. dealing with plagiarism or inappropriate content) of the club he/she may go to the administrator(s). If the administrator(s) feels the evidence implicates the accused member(s), the accused shall first be given the chance to explain his/her actions. The club will then decide as a whole if the explanation is adequate or not, he/she may then be asked to leave the club. |

| Article 4. Officers |
| Section A. Chief Editor: |
| A. The job of the Chief Editor is to direct the main focus of the meetings and have a written agenda before each meeting of what needs to be accomplished during each meeting. He/she must help arrange both in school and out-of-school meetings and events related to the club. |
| B. Members eligible for this position must be returning members to the club. |
| C. The Chief Editor will be voted by ballot by the members of the club. This voting session will occur in the spring before the following school year. All members who wish to run for this office must prepare a speech, which will explain to the club why he/she is best fit for the position. |
| Section B. Co-Editor: |
| A. The job of the Co-Editor is to keep attendance of the current members at both meetings and events. He/she must assist the Chief Editor in planning in-school and out-of-school meetings and events. If for any reason, the Chief Editor cannot attend a meeting or event, the Co-Editor shall take his/her place for the time being. |
| B. All members are eligible for this position. |
| C. The Co-Editor will be voted by ballot by the members of the club. This voting session will occur in the spring before the following school year. All members who wish to run for this office must prepare a speech, which will explain to the club why he/she is best fit for the position. |
| Section C. Scribe: |
| A. The job of the Scribe is to keep a written record of each meeting. Then from the notes, he/she shall create a bulletin of the key events of the meeting. This bulletin shall be placed in the administrator(s) room(s) so that member who were unable to attend a meeting may see what was discussed and what events will occur in the future. |
| B. Members eligible for this position must be reliable and must be willing to take extra time to create the bulletin after each meeting. This member must keep up on the bulletin and have it out the day after the meeting takes place. Failure to do so may (depending on circumstances) result in a re-election for a new scribe. |
| C. The Scribe will be voted by ballot by the members of the club and approved by the administrator(s). This voting session will occur the second meeting of the club in the fall. Each member who wish to run for this office must prepare a speech, which will explain to the club why he/she is best fit for the position. |
| Section D. Failure to commit: |
| A. An officer must be committed to the club. He/she must carry out his/her jobs effectively as officer. Failure to do so may result in a re-election (left to the discretion of the administrator(s).) |
| Article 5. Amendments |
| Section A. This constitution may be amended by a 2/3 majority vote of the membership. |

| Article 6. Effective Date |
| This constitution shall become effective and this club shall come into existence upon the approval of the Board of Directors of the Tahoma School district. Approval of the Board shall not be sought until approval has been obtained from the Tahoma High School Student Council. |

| Adopted by the students requesting club status this 29th day of September, 2006. |
